5 Criteria For Choosing An Office Desk For CEOs And Other Senior Executives

Of all the individuals working in a business, who do you think the most time and money is spent on when buying commercial furniture?

If you said employees, you might be correct in the sense that if a business has one hundred office workers it is one hundred office chairs and one hundred office desks that need to be purchased, which will all add up to a considerable dollar amount.

However, when it comes to a specific office chair and office desk, we submit it is those of the CEO or company owner that more time is spent on choosing, and we imagine the most money too.

We say that, not as a criticism, but merely to point out it is logical that someone at the top of a business’s structure will have better office furniture than the dozens or hundreds of employees who work for them.

Whilst there might be more money spent on top executives’ office furniture, it does not mean that the choices made will always be the right ones.

Simply spending more money is no guarantee that what is purchased is suitable for the executive it was bought for.

With that in mind, when choosing items such as an office chair and an office desk, it should be done with as much care and attention as would be applied when buying anything else for a business.

That especially applies to the latter of those two items of furniture, namely the office desk.

Taking time to research and assess what the needs are of the executive for whom the office desk is being bought, will go a long way to ensuring that the right office desk is acquired.

To help with that objective, here are five criteria that should be evaluated when selecting an office desk for top executives.

How Do They Work?

This might seem a strange question, but it is perfectly valid when selecting an executive’s desk.

Top executives work for different companies, they will each have several and varied responsibilities, and they each will work in different ways. So, do they deal with paperwork all day?

Are they only at their desk for an hour or two per day? Do they hold numerous meetings sat at their desk? And so on. These answers will inform what size and type of desk most suit them.

How Big Is Their Office?

We hope it seems logical to you that the size of an executive’s office is going to influence the type, and more especially, the size of the office desk that they can have.

One thing to ensure is that the office desk purchased allows for easy access around it and that it does not look make their office looked cramped.

Does The Desk Need To Have Storage?

Here, the size of the executive’s office will have an influence again, as it may determine how much, or if any, office storage furniture can be placed in it. Even if it does, the executive might wish to have drawers within their desk.

Bear in mind, the drawers in office desks can vary massively between different desks so check what their preference is. For example, do they prefer deep drawers to the side, or thin drawers just beneath the top of the desk?

What Are The Aesthetics Of The Executive’s Office?

Given that executives might hold meetings in their offices with third parties and clients, it follows that the aesthetics of their office must be up to the standards befitting their position.

This means that any office desk which is purchased for them, must add to the aesthetics of their office, not diminish them.

What Budget Is Available?

You might think that the budget for a top executive’s desk, including CEOs, would be unlimited, but we assure you it is not. Shareholders are not going to look kindly at thousands of dollars spent on a desk in a  business struggling to make a profit.

Naturally, it may cost more than desks for other offices, but there will still be a monetary cap on what can be spent on an executive office desk.
